If you could only have one essential oil in your home, then lavender would be the most useful - because it is so effective in soothing burns and scalds. Lavender is also a natural antibiotic, anti-depressant, relaxant and cleanser. Lavender aromatherapy essential oil has a multitude of other uses which make it such a popular and indispensable choice.
Nervous System: Lavender aromatherapy essential oil is often associated with sleep disorders and shock related conditions; its relaxing properties helping to soothe tension in both mind and body. For migraine and headaches, Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can be used in a cold compress or placed in a few drops of boiling water and inhaled. Lavender aromatherapy essential oil is also said to help with PMT and depression.

 

Skin Care: Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can be used undiluted directly onto unbroken skin, particularly to relieve the discomfort of scalds, sunburn etc. Allergies, bruises, athletes foot, eczema, scabies, dermatitis, inflammations, sores, spots and boils are also said to benefit from Lavender aromatherapy essential oil.

Respiratory System: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, throat infections, whooping cough and halitosis have all been reported to respond to Lavender aromatherapy essential oil which can be massaged gently onto the throat, nose or chest  Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can be used in the bath or as a steam inhalation when combined with Eucalyptus.
 
Muscles and Joints: Lavender aromatherapy essential oil is best used as a massage oil to give relief from muscular aches and pains, either on its own or blended with other aromatherapy oils. Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can be used in a similar way to aid rheumatism, arthritis, sciatica, lumbago, sprains etc.
 
Genito-urinary System: Lavender aromatherapy essential oil is valuable in easing menstrual pain or scanty menstruation. During labour, Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can help to reduce the pain of contractions if massaged into the lower back.
 
General: The main actions of Lavender aromatherapy essential oil are soothing and relaxing. Just a few drops of Essential Lavender aromatherapy oil added to a baby’s bath can promote sleep. Lavender aromatherapy essential oil can also be applied to the skin as an insect repellent or used to protect clothes from moths and other small pests.

 

Mixing Oils: Lavender aromatherapy essential oil blends well with aromatherapy flower oils, e.g. Geranium and Rosemary.  Lavender aromatherapy essential oil also mixes well with other natural oils such as Bergamot, Pine and Patchouli aromatherapy essential oils.  Lavender aromatherapy essential oil blends well with Marjoram, Cedarwood, Clary Sage and Clove aromatherapy essential oils.

 

Important reminders: Essential Oils should not generally be applied directly to the skin : always dilute in a base oil. Never use internally. Store out of reach of children. Avoid contact with polished surfaces. Always follow specific instructions.
