Birth Pool in a Box Eco

Why Birth Pool in a Box?
Proven for relaxation, labour and birth over
3,000 times in Britain, Birth Pool in a Box makes the birth you want
within reach.
Comes with a disposable liner and a heavy duty
inflation/deflation hand pump.
Designed
with purpose
Birth Pool in a
Box is designed
with safety, practicality, comfort and resilience in mind. Over
3,000 women in the Britain have successfully used one for
relaxation, labour and birth
Why "Eco"?
Birth Pool in a Box is made from PVC. PVC needs
softening additives ("plasticisers") to make it flexible and the
plasticisers historically used - compounds called phthalates - have
been linked to fertility problems in animals and, by extension,
people. Alternative plasticisers have been developed whose
performance is close to that of phthalates and we have specified
these for use in the new versions of Birth Pool in a Box. Hence the
name Eco highlights the reduced impact on health and the
environment.
Is there an Eco liner as well?
Yes! An Eco liner comes with each Eco pool and
additional liners are available separately.
Can you make bio-degradable pools?
There is currently no
bio-degradable material available that performs like PVC available
at prices less than 10 times that of PVC. We expect innovation to
enable one at some time in the future and we will definitely offer
it as soon as we can.
What else is different on the Eco pools?
The Regular Eco pools have an internal seat and
top handles as standard. An internal seat is great to sit on after
birth while you bond with your newborn. Use the top handles for
stability while floating face-up in the water and as a leverage
point to give you control when you want to change position.
The Mini Eco pools have top handles as standard,
with the same benefits as above.
Two sizes available
Everyone is
different, as are their homes and hot water systems. Choose the
optimum size for you. Reasons to go for the Regular pool are:
-
you are over 5'6" (167cm) and want more
freedom of movement
-
your partner would like the option to get in
the pool with you
-
your available floor space is more than 3 x
2.7 metres
-
your hot water system is on-demand or your
tank refills quickly
-
you want the seat to relax on and bond with
your baby after the birth
-
Consider the Mini if some or all of these are not
true. Both pools are 26" deep internally when fully inflated.

Design Feedback
|
|
A |
Fitted
disposable liner |
Midwives
advised that a new liner for the birth was a necessity from
a hygiene perspective, while allowing for mothers who wanted
to do trial-runs to do them. The liner also acts as a
redundant container for the water in the pool. The pool
comes with one liner and additional liners are available as
extras. |
|
B |
White Floor |
Midwives
requested a white floor to enhance visibility. |
|
C |
Soft 2” high
floor chamber |
Mothers wanted
extra comfort on the pool floor. |
|
D |
Clear Inside
Wall |
Mothers liked
the perception of larger space created by having a clear
inner wall. |
|
E |
Adjustable
Height |
Midwives said
that mothers with shorter legs may have difficulty getting
in and out of a pool. When a woman wants to exit the pool,
simply open the top fast-deflate valve for a few seconds to
reduce the height and width of the top chamber of the pool.
|
|
F |
Choice of two
sizes |
Some mothers
had limited room space, some wanted their partners to join
them and some wanted as much freedom as possible in the
pool. So we made the pool in Regular and Mini sizes.
|
|
G |
Three separate
chambers |
This is safer
than a single chamber in the event of an accidental puncture
in the pool walls. |
|
H |
Opaque external
wall |
Mothers
unanimously agreed that the opaque external wall increased
their sense of privacy. |
|
I |
Choice of
pattern or plain blue external wall |
The specially
commissioned artwork depicts an underwater scene of creative
labour and birthing images. This makes the pool useful for
fun in the garden after the birth or for sharing the birth
story with young children. Alternatively, the pool is
available without the pattern. |
|
J |
Egg-shape
|
Some mothers
wanted to be cosseted while others wanted space, so we made
the pool narrower at one end and wider at the other.
|
|
K |
Double
reinforced handles |
Mothers
requested these strong handles on the outside of the pool (2
sets, uniquely positioned) for use when leaning over the
side. They are angled at 30 degrees for maximum comfort.
|
|
L |
Tested for
Quality, Durability and Stability |
Each pool is
factory tested to ensure that it has no defects. Also, the
sides are strong enough to allow a 15-stone person to sit or
lean on them. |
|
M |
Plain blue rim
|
Mothers said
they wanted a clear space to rest their heads with no
distracting text or shapes. |
|
N |
No internal
handles |
Midwives and
mothers agreed that internal handles might obstruct full
movement and prevent effective use of a liner.
|
|
O |
No Rough Edges
|
Mothers
requested that seams be smooth where they rest their heads.
|
|
P |
Top handles |
Mothers asked
for handles here to give them control over their movement in
the water. They are also useful for gripping during
contractions and to hold onto while getting in the pool. |
|
Q |
No drain plug
|
Midwives and
mothers agreed that a drain plug was an unnecessary weak
link in a birthing pool. |
|
R |
Internal seat |
Mothers
requested a comfortable place to sit while they bonded with
their newborn. |
